When Microsoft and Behaviour Interactive released Doritos Crash Course 2 on Xbox Live Arcade in 2013, millions of players jumped into its chaotic, game-show obstacle courses spanning the Amazon, Antarctica, and Egypt. But because the game was built as a free-to-play title requiring constant Xbox Live server handshakes, when Microsoft shut down the servers in October 2014, the game became completely unplayable—locked away in the digital graveyard for over a decade.
Now, preservation collective JM Studios has pulled off a miraculous resurrection: Crash Course 2: Recomp is officially live and playable on PC!

Rescuing an Unplayable XBLA Gem
Unlike standard emulation through Xenia, which struggled with Crash Course 2's online server check and custom Avatar skeletal rigging, Crash Course 2: Recomp statically recompiles the Xbox 360 title into a native Windows executable with direct hardware acceleration:
- Native Windows Renderer: Runs natively on Windows 10 and 11 with unlocked resolutions and fluid framerates.
- Offline Mode Restored: Completely severs the dead Xbox Live server requirements, restoring the full obstacle course campaign for solo speedruns and local play.
- Integrated Avatar Editor: Because the original game relied on Xbox 360 Avatars as the playable characters, JM Studios built a standalone Avatar Editor directly into the recompilation, letting players customize their runner before tackling the courses.

The XBLA Avatar Preservation Roadmap
Crash Course 2 is only the opening salvo in JM Studios' broader mission to resurrect delisted Xbox Live Arcade classics that relied on Xbox 360 Avatars. The studio has confirmed two additional native recompilation projects currently in active development:
- Joy Ride Turbo: The beloved arcade kart racer featuring Avatar stunt courses and open-world car parks.
- Full House Poker: The high-stakes Texas Hold 'em title featuring full Avatar reactions and chip-trick animations.
The initial release of Crash Course 2: Recomp is available now as a free standalone download directly from the team's official portal.
