Buster Busts Loose! Enhanced PC Port Brings the SNES Classic to True Widescreen & 21:9

Konami's 1993 16-bit classic Tiny Toon Adventures: Buster Busts Loose! has received an enhanced native Windows PC port featuring true native widescreen (16:9 and 21:9), CRT shaders, and modern controls.

Buster Busts Loose! Enhanced PC Port Brings the SNES Classic to True Widescreen & 21:9

Konami’s golden-era 16-bit masterpiece Tiny Toon Adventures: Buster Busts Loose! has officially broken free from the Super Nintendo’s hardware boundaries. Developed by reverse-engineer Darhkfox, the newly released Buster Busts Loose! PC Port (v1.0) brings the 1993 platforming classic to 64-bit Windows with true native widescreen rendering, modern Direct3D 11 graphics, custom CRT shaders, and a full suite of quality-of-life enhancements.

Rather than relying on generic emulator overlays, this standalone release integrates an extended LakeSnes core directly into a native C++ frontend. By applying real-time in-memory assembly patches to the original game code, the engine dynamically renders level geometry, background parallax layers, and enemy spawns deep into modern 16:9, 16:10, and 21:9 ultrawide aspect ratios.

True Native Widescreen: Beyond 4:3 Constraints

Most retro platformers break when forced into widescreen due to hardcoded sprite culling and camera constraints. Buster Busts Loose! PC solves these architectural limitations from the ground up:

  • Expanded Viewports (16:9, 16:10, 21:9): Instead of stretching pixels or adding side borders, the port patches level streaming, memory pre-drawing, and camera boundaries on the fly. Environments seamlessly render all the way to your monitor's physical edges.
  • Double the Sprite Capacity: The engine doubles the SNES's native limit from 128 to 256 hardware sprites. Busy action scenes no longer suffer from classic 16-bit sprite flicker or disappearing assets.
  • Re-Anchored Modern HUD: The health and dash meters intelligently pin to the far left display boundary, while lives and star counters lock to the far right. Central gameplay overlays, like the Acme Looniversity football scoreboard, stay anchored in the middle.
  • Intelligent Autoscroll Handling: On notoriously tight scrolling stages—like the runaway Wild West train and deep-space asteroid belt—camera triggers and collision boundaries are dynamically adjusted to prevent Buster from getting crushed by off-screen geometry.

Direct3D 11 Graphics, Shaders & Calibrated Color Profiles

The port features a robust video settings menu accessible at any moment via the Esc key or gamepad Select:

  • Rendering Modes: Exclusive fullscreen, borderless windowed, or standard windowed mode powered by Direct3D 11 (with automated fallback support).
  • Advanced Shaders & Upscalers: Includes high-grade xBR (2x/4x) and Scale2x/3x/4x algorithms alongside sharp-bilinear and crisp integer scaling options.
  • Authentic CRT Filters: Choose between three intensity levels of authentic phosphor scanlines paired with an aperture-grille shadow mask.
  • Color Grading: Toggle between multiple calibrated color palettes, including Vivid, Natural CRT, Warm CRT, and Soft, along with granular gamma, saturation, and contrast sliders.

Soundtrack Jukebox, Level Select & Cheats

Beyond visual overhauls, the v1.0 release is packed with dedicated player tools and preservation features:

  • Full Sound Driver Jukebox: Plays all 27 iconic SNES audio tracks composed by Konami legends Kazuhiko Uehara and Yukie Morimoto directly through the game's SPC700 sound engine, complete with real-time audio voice visualizers.
  • Complete 28-Area Level Select: Jump directly into any stage across Children, Normal, or Challenge difficulties, including individual bonus minigames (Squash, Seesaw, Bingo, Maze, Junction) and the animated ending roll.
  • 9 Save-State Slots: Quick-save with F5 and quick-load with F9, fast-forward toggles, and dedicated screenshot capture.
  • Built-In Cheat Engine: Optional toggles for infinite dash meters, invincibility, infinite lives, moon jumping, and 5-heart expansions.
  • Modern Controller Support: Native plug-and-play support for Xbox Series/One, DualSense/DualShock, Nintendo Switch Pro, and generic XInput pads with full hot-plugging and button remapping.
