Bloodborne is Running Natively on PC with Online Multiplayer: Inside ‘bbhost’ and ‘The Hunter’s Dream’

A historic breakthrough in gaming preservation: 'bbhost' runs Bloodborne's unmodified PS4 x86-64 executable directly on PC CPUs with zero CPU emulation, 60+ FPS, ultrawide, cut content restoration, and full online co-op via The Hunter's Dream private server.

Bloodborne is Running Natively on PC with Online Multiplayer: Inside ‘bbhost’ and ‘The Hunter’s Dream’

For nearly a decade, the gaming world has begged Sony for a single announcement: an official PC port or a 60 FPS PlayStation 5 remaster of FromSoftware's gothic masterpiece, Bloodborne. As years passed with deafening silence from PlayStation, modders and emulation engineers took matters into their own hands. Today, that tireless pursuit reached its holy grail. Bloodborne is now running natively on PC with functional online multiplayer, 60+ FPS, ultrawide support, restored cut content, and a live web telemetry map.

The monumental release comes courtesy of core developers droogie (@droogie1xp), metr1k, and Kyoskiqt (@Kyoskiqt), who released two interlocking open-source achievements: bbhost, a native translation runtime for Windows and Linux, and The Hunter's Dream, a dedicated private multiplayer server complete with live world tracking.

btw we just released #Bloodborne PC
yall can go try it, https://thehuntersdream.com/

lot of the work is done by metrik and @droogie1xp.

have a cursed video from our testing lmao— Kyoskiqt (@Kyoskiqt) October 7, 2026

The reaction across the Soulsborne community was immediate and electrifying, with tech commentator Chris Mizo (@MizoChris) outlining why this development represents a massive paradigm shift beyond traditional console emulation:

🚨 BLOODBORNE IS NOW RUNNING NATIVELY ON PC WITH ONLINE MULTIPLAYER! 🤯🔥

This is NOT traditional PS4 emulation.

• New project is called bbhost
• Runs on Windows AND Linux
• Bloodborne’s original PS4 x86-64 game code runs directly on the PC CPU
• No CPU interpreter or recompiler
• PS4 system libraries are reimplemented for PC
• All 660 named system functions imported by Bloodborne have implementations
• Graphics are translated to Vulkan
• Supports 60 FPS and higher frame caps
• Supports ANY resolution
• Native 21:9 + 32:9 ultrawide support
• Adjustable FOV
• Keyboard + mouse support
• Rebindable controls
• Proper PC graphics and effects menus
• Mods are supported
• Randomizer, Boss Rush and gameplay mutators already exist
• Character appearance editing has been restored
• You can RESPEC your character
• Steam Deck is supported
• Online multiplayer works through The Hunter’s Dream private server
• CO-OP works
• INVASIONS work
• Blood messages work
• Bloodstains + death visions work
• Wandering player ghosts work
• Summon signs work
• Chalice Dungeon glyphs work
• The Hunter’s Dream even has a LIVE MAP showing hunters moving through Yharnam
• Windows and Linux players are supported
• You still need your own Bloodborne 1.09 game dump

The Hunter’s Dream server allows bbhost and shadPS4 players to exist in the SAME persistent world for messages, bloodstains, ghosts and Chalice Dungeons.

Actual co-op and invasions currently stay between players using the same client.

Sony still hasn’t given us Bloodborne on PC, so the community is apparently just building the PC version themselves. 💀

This is WAY beyond where Bloodborne on PC was even a year ago.— Chris Mizo (@MizoChris) October 7, 2026

Why bbhost is NOT Emulation: Bare-Metal x86-64 Execution

To understand why bbhost is such a watershed achievement, one must understand how modern console architectures interact with PC hardware. Unlike the PlayStation 3's notoriously esoteric Cell Broadband Engine (which requires complex instruction-set translation on RPCS3), the PlayStation 4 is fundamentally an AMD x86-64 machine. Bloodborne's shipping retail executable was compiled directly for the x86-64 ISA.

Zero CPU Interpretation or JIT: bbhost does not emulate the PS4's Jaguar CPU. Instead, it acts as a native executable loader and High-Level Emulation (HLE) runtime. It loads the decrypted 1.09 ELF binary into PC memory, relocates its code segments, binds its symbol imports, and lets the game's actual code execute directly on your Intel or AMD CPU at full native speed.

The core challenge of running a PS4 game on PC has never been CPU instructions—it is the operating system environment (Orbis OS). Bloodborne relies on Sony's proprietary kernel, memory allocators, thread schedulers, audio decoders, and network stacks. bbhost solves this by providing native PC implementations for all 660 named system functions imported by the game:

  • Core OS Services: Memory management, thread synchronization, and virtual memory paging are mapped to native OS primitives via SDL3 and modern C++.
  • Audio & Video Pipelines: Proprietary Sony Atrac9 audio streams are decoded natively via LibAtrac9, while cinematics are handled through FFmpeg.
  • Cryptography & Auth: PlayStation Network encryption protocols and session tokens are reimplemented using Monocypher.
  • Source-Level Function Rewriting: The team is actively decompiling and rewriting internal game functions as native source code, allowing deep engine bug fixes that conventional binary patching could never touch.

The Graphics Pipeline: Hooking FromSoftware Engine Objects

While the CPU side runs bare-metal, the PlayStation 4's GPU pipeline utilized AMD's proprietary GCN (Graphics Core Next) architecture and Sony's low-level GNM graphics API. Traditionally, emulators translate every hardware command buffer through a virtual GPU command processor, introducing substantial overhead.

bbhost adopts a revolutionary hybrid rendering approach by hooking directly into FromSoftware's internal graphics abstraction layer:

Bloodborne Central Yharnam in 21:9 Ultrawide on PC
Central Yharnam rendered in native 21:9 ultrawide at high framerates with proper FOV and HUD placement via bbhost.
  • Native Draw Call Dispatch: Rather than waiting for the game to write raw PM4 hardware packets to a ring buffer, bbhost intercepts draw calls directly from FromSoftware's engine objects, dispatching them straight to the host GPU via Vulkan.
  • GCN to SPIR-V Shader Decompilation: The project includes a custom shader compiler that decodes AMD GCN bytecode and translates it into SPIR-V. Compatible pixel shaders are lifted and decompiled directly into clean, structured SPIR-V.
  • Native Post-Processing & Tessellation: Silicon Studio's YEBIS post-processing optical pipeline has been completely rebuilt natively, alongside native host GPU tessellation.

The Definitive PC Feature Set

Rather than merely running the game as it existed on a 2015 base PS4, bbhost is built from the ground up as a premier PC release:

Bloodborne PC Graphics Settings Menu
Seamlessly integrated PC Graphics menu rendered inside Bloodborne's authentic UI design system.
Feature Category Technical Implementation in bbhost
Framerate & Pacing Native 60 FPS and uncapped framerate options. Integrates Kyo's 60 FPS++ timing list to ensure physics, cloth simulation, and animations remain perfectly locked without speeding up.
Display & Ultrawide Arbitrary resolution support with native 21:9 and 32:9 ultrawide scaling, corrected field of view (FOV), and proper edge-anchored HUD positioning. Features integrated AMD FSR 1 upscaling.
In-Engine Graphics Menus Native settings injected directly into Bloodborne's System menu: PC Graphics, PC Effects, PC Controls, Ambient Occlusion, Shadow Distance, Volumetric Fog, and Motion Blur.
Keyboard & Mouse Full mouse camera look, custom menu cursor pointers, completely rebindable hotkeys, and dynamic on-screen button prompts reflecting PC keyboard bindings.
Restored Cut Content The Hunter's Dream mirror now activates the cut Character Appearance Editor; the Altar of Despair enables "Rebirth in the Nightmare" for full character stat respec.
Expanded Invasions Late-game nightmare zones now allow two simultaneous invaders, matching the intense PvP dynamics of the Chalice Dungeons.
Native Modding & Plugins Ships with an extensible plugin API. Built-in plugins include an Item/Enemy/Shop Randomizer, Boss Rush mode, gameplay mutators, and FromSoftware's official internal Debug Menu.

The Hunter’s Dream: Online Multiplayer and a Shared Universe

Perhaps the most jaw-dropping revelation of today’s launch is full online multiplayer functionality. Powered by The Hunter’s Dream (thehuntersdream.com)—a custom server reverse-engineered by droogie—players are no longer confined to isolated single-player instances:

Bloodborne PC Online Co-Op Orphan of Kos Fight
Three hunters tackling the Orphan of Kos in live online co-op with peer-to-peer latency telemetry displayed.
  • Full Co-Op & Invasions: Peer-to-peer UDP networking with automatic NAT traversal allows hunters to ring the Beckoning Bell, summon allies across the globe, and engage in high-stakes PvP invasions.
  • Asynchronous Online World: Leave and discover Blood Messages with Fine/Foul evaluations; inspect Tombstones and Bloodstains to witness ghost replays of other players' deaths; and observe Wandering Ghosts seamlessly pacing through Yharnam.
  • Chalice Dungeon Glyphs: Full online Chalice Dungeon sharing via glyph codes, complete with procedural generation, boss prediction, and seed visualization.
  • Shared World with shadPS4: In a stunning feat of cross-project harmony, bbhost and shadPS4 players populate the exact same persistent asynchronous universe for messages, bloodstains, wandering ghosts, and chalice dungeons (with direct matchmaking reserved for matching client types).

Live World Telemetry: Yharnam on an Interactive Map

Taking online infrastructure further than FromSoftware ever did, The Hunter's Dream features a breathtaking Live World Map (thehuntersdream.com/map). Rendered atop a hand-painted map of Yharnam by Filipe Ramos (u/Dibilowas), the web dashboard displays real-time server telemetry just seconds behind actual gameplay:

Real-Time Hunter Telemetry: Watch live markers across Central Yharnam, Cainhurst, and the Nightmare realms indicating where hunters are currently exploring, the exact coordinates where players fall in battle, which beasts are slain, and boss victory moments. Players can even use the "Follow a Hunter" feature to visualize a hunter's complete journey and historical death path over 90-day windows.

Setup, Steam Deck, and Clean Preservation Ethics

Crucially, bbhost adheres strictly to legal emulation and preservation standards. The software contains zero copyrighted assets, textures, game code, audio, or proprietary encryption keys. To play, users must provide their own legitimately acquired PS4 game dump:

bbhost Setup Wizard and Configuration Utility
The built-in bbhost configuration wizard verifies game dumps, handles Discord authentication for the server, and provides Steam Deck optimization.
  1. Game Prerequisites: A decrypted dump of Bloodborne updated to patch 1.09, alongside a decrypted eboot.bin ELF binary (verified against SHA-256 941f887a562aae054fac35af8cc8f27cf075f3d4cc2e029fb5ae2a663aaa5ae7).
  2. Automated Setup Utility: Running bbhost launches a lightweight GUI that validates game directory paths, links to The Hunter's Dream private server, and configures display modes.
  3. Steam Deck Ready: Full out-of-the-box support for Valve's Steam Deck and Linux handhelds, providing a portable 60 FPS hunting experience that Sony never delivered.

The Community Fulfills the Dream

For nine years, the gaming community waited for Sony to acknowledge the desperate demand for Bloodborne on modern hardware. Instead of waiting indefinitely, an extraordinary coalition of reverse engineers, graphics coders, and modders has delivered the definitive PC experience themselves. With native execution, Vulkan rendering, restored cut content, and a thriving private multiplayer network, the hunt has truly begun on PC.
